Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned with the detachment in Margibi County have charged and sent to court a 17-year-old boy with murder, a Liberia News Agency Correspondent in the county has reported.Suspect Calvin Mambu, according to the report, was arrested in Weala, Cinta Township on Thursday, April 18, 2019, for allegedly stabbing Obediah Sulonteh, 22, to death following an argument that ensued between them.Members of the Community Watch Forum in Weala arrested the suspect Mambu shortly after the incident, while attempting to escape from the crime scene as the victim was being rushed to the C.H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata, the county political capital.Medical doctors pronounced Victim Sulonteh dead on arrival.During police preliminary investigation, according to the report, suspect Mambu admitted to stabbing Sulonteh, but said the act was committed during an argument in which they both exchanged invectives, and that he overreacted to the situation.Meanwhile, the Kakata Magisterial Court on April 20, 2019, issued a writ of arrest for suspect Calvin Mambu after LNP officers brought him before the court.According to LINA, defendant Mambu’s action is in violation of chapter 14, section 14.1 of the new penal law of Liberia, and being highly criminal minded with the intent to commit crime against the state, the defendant took a silver-colored knife with blue handle and stabbed victim Obediah Sulonteh on his left side just beneath his left arm, thereby leaving the victim with wound, profuse bleeding, severe pain and suffering to death. The writ further stated that the victim was rushed to the hospital, and was pronounced dead by doctors on call “as a result of severe wound and profuse bleeding, causing him to die.”The said act of the defendant, being unlawful, constitutes the offense of “murder.”Meanwhile, family members of the late Sulonteh have laid to rest his remains in Suacoco, Bong County with the prior advice and consent of the police.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Further fan violence ahead of Euro 2016 as England supporters clash with police

first_img Marseille was the location of the further violence England fans have once again clashed with police in the French port town of Marseille.Supporters who had been drinking for most of the day at the Queen Victoria pub in the Old Port district threw bottles at French riot police, who used tear gas to disperse them. The officers, who wore full riot gear, were seen marching towards hundreds of England fans who ran away down the street. The clashes come after a night of violence in the city in southern France, and just hours before the first game between the hosts and Romania in Paris. One England supporter suffered a head injury in Thursday night’s brawl after being hit across the face with a wooden chair, and according to reports, some England fans were heard chanting: “Isis, where are you?”Bare-chested England fans dodged the gas deployed by police as an afternoon of drinking and singing turned ugly. Police with helmets, batons and shields grappled troublemakers to the ground amid beer bottles and rubbish strewn across the cobbled streets.Supporters are in Marseille ahead of England’s game with Russia on Saturday.Following the skirmishes, which started at around 6.20pm French time, the fans continued to sing about the IRA, German bombers being shot down and the national anthem.Bottles were thrown as the police formed a new line and watched on from about 50 metres away.A crowd of locals came to watch and continued to grow until the bottles were turned on to them.Police continued to charge at fans in attempts to scatter them.A number of arrests were made during the clashes, and a man wearing what appeared to be an England shirt was seen being led away by police. 1last_img read more

TOP DONEGAL GARDA PLEADS WITH PEOPLE TO WEAR SEAT BELTS IN NEW YEAR

first_imgThe head of the Garda Traffic Corps in Donegal has pleaded with people in the county to wear seatbelts in 2015.Inspector Harrison has pleaded with people to belt up in 2015.Inspector Michael Harrison said he has no doubt that less people would have been killed on the county’s roads last year if they had worn seatbelts.Officially 11 people were killed on Donegal roads in 2014. But Inspector Harrison confirmed that a number of those killed were NOT wearing seat belts.A frustrated Inspector Harrison told Donegal Daily “I just can’t understand why, in this day and age, people do not wear seat belts.“Seat belts save lives – it’s a proven fact and yet people across Donegal and across the country continue to ignore them,” he said. And he added “I have no doubt that some of those eleven people killed on Donegal’s roads in 2014 would have still been alive if they had been wearing their seatbelts,” he said. Inspector Harrison said both the Road Safety Authority and the Gardai are trying desperately to encourage people to wear seatbelts at all times.“We are all completely frustrated as to why people are not wearing seatbelts.“We are working on various campaigns and even Gay Byrne admitted his frustration at the situation of people not wearing belts.“We simply have to try and continue to get the message across that people are much more likely to be seriously hurt or killed if they are not wearing a seatbelt and they are in a collision,” he said. TOP DONEGAL GARDA PLEADS WITH PEOPLE TO WEAR SEAT BELTS IN NEW YEAR was last modified: January 3rd, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalGardaiInspector Michael Harrisonseatbeltslast_img read more

Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast November 1, 2018

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Rain continues over the state today, and as low pressure moves up the front out of the mid-Mississippi valley, we will see moisture work northward. That means today will feature the heaviest and longest lasting rains in the southern half  and eastern third of the state, but the north and NW will not be completely immune, with rain pushing in this afternoon. We are putting rain totals today at .25”-.75” over the northwest quadrant of Ohio, and .5”-2” over the rest of the state. There can be some areas that end up with more closer to 3, if the variables all line up just right. The significant rains are off to the east and south by midday tomorrow, and may leave sooner. But, even if its done sooner, we still expect a pretty good batch of wrap around moisture with this circulation. Most of that will manifest as clouds, but we won’t rule out a spit or sprinkle over the state. Coverage will be pretty minor, but enough that we can’t wave the all clear flag just yet. This weekend goes dry!! Well, at least Saturday through Sunday morning. We should see good south winds over the weekend, taking temps well above normal in all areas. Clouds will start to increase Sunday by midday, and by evening/overnight, we see a minor trough working through. That will trigger light rains, a few hundredths to no more than .3” but we are increasing coverage to near 80% and it won’t take much to nudge that closer to 100%…but time will tell.We don’t see much of anything but clouds through the day Monday, but Monday night through Tuesday a strong system and cold front sweep through. Rain totals will be from .5”-1.5” with coverage at 100% of the state. This will be another good, soaking rain in all areas, and will add to harvest delays.A little good news as we end the 10-day window: we are dry from next Wednesday all the way through Saturday and even next Sunday should say precipitation free, although we expect clouds to develop there. Temps will be cooler than the first part of next week, as there is strong north winds and a Canadian high-pressure dome that will move in behind the big rains Tuesday. Still, though, we expect good evaporation rates and stronger west and northwest winds to aid in drying. For the extended period, we have rain coming back for the 12th, bringing .25”-1” over 75% of the state. Then we are dry again for Tuesday the 13th through that following Friday. So, drier windows do exist in our forecast, but it takes til the second half of next week to get to them…and there is a lot of moisture headed toward us between now and then (the map below shows rain totals now through next Wednesday morning).last_img read more

They’ve applied for a $500,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help cover a $1.26 million planned capital project – capital meaning, in this case, buildings and equipment rather than funds for investment. The planned expansion is necessary, wrote EmergeMemphis in their grant application, because the incubator is currently operating at capacity. Tejaswi appears before ED in railway hotels case

first_imgTejaswi Yadav, the son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, on Tuesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in connection with its money laundering probe in the railway hotels allotment corruption case, officials said. The former Bihar deputy chief minister arrived at the central probe agency’s office where it is expected that the investigating officer of the case will record his statement, they said. It had registered a criminal case against the Lalu Prasad family members and others under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sometime back. The ED had earlier questioned few people in this case including the wife of former UPA Minister P.C. Gupta. Mr. Tejashwi’s mother and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi has been summoned to appear before the ED on Wednesday. The agency had taken cognisance of a CBI FIR in this regard to initiate its own criminal complaint. In July, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a criminal FIR (first information report) and conducted multiple searches against former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad and others. The ED will investigate the alleged “proceeds of crime” generated by the accused, purportedly through shell companies, officials had said. Ms. Rabri Devi, Mr. Tejaswi Yadav, and others will be probed by the agency under charges filed in the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), the ED equivalent of a police FIR. The case dates back to the time when Mr. Prasad was the railway minister in the UPA government. Others named in the CBI FIR include Vijay Kochhar, Vinay Kochhar (both directors of Sujata Hotels), Delight Marketing company, now known as Lara Projects, and the then IRCTC managing director P K Goel. The CBI FIR alleges that Prasad, as railway minister, handed over the maintenance of two IRCTC hotels to a company after receiving a bribe in the form of prime land in Patna through a ‘benami’ company owned by Sarla Gupta. The FIR was registered on 5 July in connection with favours allegedly extended to Sujata Hotels in awarding a contract for the upkeep of the hotels in Ranchi and Puri and receiving premium land as ‘quid pro quo’.The ED, under the PMLA, has powers to attach and confiscate tainted assets and it is expected that the agency will initiate such a move once it makes progress in the case.last_img read more
