MAGNOLIA, Texas – The 2019 Southland Conference Women’s Golf Championship tees off Monday morning at 8 a.m. CT at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia, Texas. Eight Southland teams – Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, McNeese, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – will compete at the championship featuring a 6,258-yard, par 72 course.The winning team at the Southland Championship will earn the conference’s automatic qualifying bid to the 2019 NCAA Regionals. Pairings are determined by each teams’ seeding based upon their Golfstat national ranking.Sam Houston State enters the championship as the top seed after concluding regular-season play ranked 109th in the nation. The Bearkats claimed a pair of tournament wins throughout the regular season and were led by Hanna Alberto who has compiled four individual tournament titles. Alberto is 45-0 when playing against conference foes and is most recently coming off a 46th-place finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur where she shot a 74. Sam Houston State is 6-1 against Southland opponents this season and will tee off at 10:15 a.m. alongside Houston Baptist.HBU is touted as the Southland’s No. 2 seed, headed into the week, after locking up a 6-1 team record of their own against conference opponents. The Huskies, who claimed the 2018 Southland Conference title, boast the Southland’s past two individual title winners as Lexi Brooks took first place overall in 2017 and Kaity Cummings claimed the individual championship in 2018. Houston Baptist is once again led by Cummings who stands fourth in the Southland with a 42-3 record.No. 3 Lamar and No. 4 Central Arkansas will tee off together beginning at 9:30 a.m. Lamar is led by Elodie Chapelet who holds a 72.65 individual average for the season. The Cardinals are collectively shooting 300.38 for the 2018-19 campaign and have collected a pair of runner-up finishes to go along with a team title at the Bab Steffens Hatter Invitational on March 25.UCA will be led by seniors Emma Svensson and Sally Fridstrom who have led the Bears to a 76.11 adjusted scoring average for the season in addition to a team championship at the Little Rock Golf Classic in Little Rock, Ark. (Oct. 30, 2018). Svensson holds a 43-2 record against conference opponents, ranks third among Southland competitors and has claimed a win over an individual ranked 26-50 in the nation.Five-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will join No. 6 Incarnate Word in the tee box for an 8:45 a.m. start. Leading off the tournament will be No. 7 McNeese alongside No. 8 Stephen F. Austin who are slated to begin at 8 a.m.High Meadow Ranch Golf Course is an 18-hole course divided into three loops, Forest, Pine Barrens and Signature. The 2019 championship will mark the Southland’s first year at the Magnolia, Texas course.
