Aptly titled the PUBG Global Invitational, the event will see 20 teams travel to Berlin, Germany to compete for the lion’s share of the $2,000,000 prize pool.The Invitational will take place from July 25th to 29th with teams qualifying through North American, Asian, and European regional tournaments. Two teams will be crowned as world champions: one team for first-person perspective, and the other team for third-person perspective.Read the full article here.Fortnite expands to China thanks to Tencent investmentTencent has announced that it will be expanding Fortnite into China. The Chinese investment company is reportedly set to spend $15 million (£10.7m) on both marketing and esports for the Battle Royale title.Those in China were already able to play Fortnite, but they were forced to play on servers from other countries. Tencent will provide Chinese servers, allowing players to carry over their progress so they retain their stats and skins.Read the full article here.North signs sponsorship with fashion and sportswear giant adidasNorth – the organisation created in a joint effort between F.C. Copenhagen and Nordisk Film – has joined forces with globally-renowned sportswear and fashion company, adidas. Planned to run for the remainder of 2018, this partnership has been described in having ‘a mutual ambition of extension’. This deal will see North’s players continue to wear adidas clothing whenever they stream and compete. While the brand has already been involved with esports, this is its first formalised partnership.Read the full article here.Splyce gains $1.5m investment from The Ledger GroupSplyce has received a major investment from Toronto, Canada, in the form of $1.5m (£1.07m) from The Ledger Group. To further reflect its interests in esports, The Ledger Group is rebranding as OverActive Media Group.The company is looking to increase its footprint in esports, whether its building, acquiring, or investing in esports franchises and relevant businesses. US buys more SA armoured vehicles

first_img18 June 2008Gauteng-based armoured vehicle company Land Systems OMC is to manufacture 111 RG-31 mine protected armoured personnel carriers for use by the US Army, as part of a US$67.3-million (about R537-million) contract won by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada.In a statement last week, General Dynamics Land Systems Canada states that the new deal is the modification of a previous contract, awarded by the US Army Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM).As part of the contract, General Dynamics will provide the programme management, while Land Systems OMC, a unit of British aerospace and defence giant BAE Systems, will manufacture the RG-31 Mk5E mine protected vehicles.“Since February 2005, the TACOM has ordered RG-31 vehicles based on operational need statements by the US Army for route clearance vehicles,” General Dynamics states, adding that this is the third such order placed by the American armed forces.Under previous contracts, the US Army ordered a total of 148 RG-31 Mk3 mine protected armoured personnel carriers and a further 307 of the Mk5 variant. In total, including the current contract, a total of 566 armoured vehicles will be delivered to the US Army.“The 111 RG-31 Mk5E vehicles ordered are similar to the 600 RG-31 Mk5E vehicles ordered by the US Marine Corps Systems Command for its Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle program,” General Dynamics states.According to Land Systems OMC, the RG-31 is the mine-protected vehicle of choice for peacekeepers, with an all-steel, welded armour, monocoque hull that ensures its crew of 10 is protected from anti-personnel fire and anti-tank mine detonations.Deliveries will occur from August to October 2008.SAinfo reporter Would you like to use this article in your publicationor on your website?See: Using SAinfo materiallast_img read more

Support for Women In Sport

first_imgAustralia’s female sport coaches, officials and administrators can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organisations to assist women to achieve their leadership potential.A total of $400,000 will be provided this year to enable women to undertake accredited sport leadership training in the areas of coaching, communications, media and marketing, governance, management and administration and officiating.The Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) grant programme is targeted at increasing female representation in sport leadership roles.They can be used by volunteers, sport sector employees and organisations for a range of activities to support their leadership aspirations in sport.The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash said it was sensational that more women are becoming involved in all aspects of sport and this investment in our future female leaders will ensure these women can fast track their careers and provide increased gender diversity within sporting organisations.“This investment will not only benefit the recipients – it will assist in breaking down the real and perceived barriers to getting more women into leadership positions in sport and ensure that sport leadership becomes more reflective of the gender balance in Australian society today,” Minister Cash said.Applications are now open and will close on 22 October 2014. DCW busts online sex racket in Nand Nagri

first_imgNew Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday said that they have busted an online sex racket in Nand Nagri and has rescued a girl and a woman aged 15 years and 30years. According to DCW, their 181 Women Helpline received a call from a woman on August 14 who informed that her 20-year-old daughter is missing from Krishna Nagar. A DCW team then assisted the lady in filing a missing report in the police station. “On Wednesday, when a DCW team went and met the family to follow up the matter, the sister of the missing girl informed that she had a friend who used to work with her and may know her whereabouts. It was informed that this friend was refusing to divulge any details about the missing girl to the family,” a DCW press statement Also Read – After eight years, businessman arrested for kidnap & murdersaid. The women commission stated that they immediately met with the friend of the missing girl who was only 16 years of age. Upon counselling, she informed the team that there is an online sex racket operating in Nand Nagri where 15 to 20 girls are being forced into prostitution. She stated that she was there for 15 to 20 days and had to make nude video calls at night between 10 to 6 pm on a social media platform IMO. DCW further added that they found a 15-year-old and 30-year-old girl hidden on the terrace who informed that they were being forced to make nude video calls.
