He also disclosed that the owner of the plundered mining camp has greatly assisted the Police Force by providing aerial support, so the ranks can carry out their duties and investigations. The deceased man’s body was air dashed to Georgetown, and a post mortem will be conducted today. The Cuyuni riverine area of Black Water Backdam was plunged into a state of shock when a night supervisor, Dominican Republic national Pedro Pablo Rosario, was shot and killed by masked bandits at about 02:00h on Friday. The three armed bandits subsequently held the other miners at gunpoint before carting off two gold mats from the sluice box.In an estimation of his losses, the owner of the camp related to investigators that the mats contained some 100 ounces of raw gold. This incident comes after miners and residents in the area had voiced concerns about the Sindicato gang reportedly operating around the Guyana/Venezuela border.Divisional Commander Kevin Adonis noted that because the gang is based on the Venezuelan side of the river, it is placed out of reach of the Guyanese arm of the law. However, he urged Guyanese nationals in the area to be careful and to avoid the Venezuelan side of the border.last_img read more
