My whole family was there, can’t get better than this: Shubman Gill after KKR win

first_imgKolkata Knight Riders made light work of the steep run chase against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Friday and it was largely down to the knock played by local boy Shubman Gill which kept his team’s chances alive in the Indian Premier League 2019.Shubman Gill smashed 65 not out off 49 balls as the Knight Riders chased down 184 with six wickets in hand and two overs to spare. The victory helped KKR keep their chances of qualifying for the playoffs alive. Kings XI Punjab on the other hand, now have no chance of advancing any further.Shubman Gill, many felt, was batting too low down the order. But he has impressed more often than not whenever he got the chance to open alongside Chris Lynn. After his classy 76 against a Mumbai Indians attack which included Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah, Gill turned his attention to KXIP’s star-studded bowling line-up.Gill put on a 62-run opening partnership with Chris Lynn (46) and then added 38, 50 and 35 runs for the second, third and fourth wickets with Robin Uthappa (22), Andre Russell (24) and captain Dinesh Karthik (21 not out) to script KKR’s sixth win of the season.Gill’s knock was even more special because it came in front of his family and friends who came to the IS Bindra stadium to watch him play on Friday night. Gill’s father started doing bhangra after his son reached his third fifty this season. The folks are happy pic.twitter.com/JDqrQJfyG5IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 3, 2019″It feels great, my first MoM at my home ground. Can’t get better than this. It was important to build partnership. I was striking it at 80-100 but the run-rate was still going around 9-10, so that’s when I decided I had to stay in there.advertisement”My whole family was there, even some relatives from my village came to watch so it’s great to play in front of everyone. We have one more match to go, and it would be very nice if we can win that and make it into the play-offs,” Gill said after picking up the man-of-the-match award.Breaking into Bhangra at the IS Bindra Stadium stands was their way of conveying how overjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Gill were after @RealShubmanGill raced the chase for @KKRiders on Friday!
