Indian Foreign Secretary holds wide ranging talks in Colombo

The Indian High Commission said Jaishankar also had talks with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama. He also had talks with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and obtained their views on issue still faced by the Tamils in the North and East. The Indian High Commission said Dr. Jaishankar reviewed the entire gamut of our bilateral relations, particularly Indian assisted economic projects and development particularly with Sri Lanka.In response to the drought situation in Sri Lanka, Dr. Jaishankar conveyed on behalf of the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera that India would donate eight water bowsers and 100 metric tonnes of rice as immediate assistance, and was ready to provide further assistance as required. Digambaran, State Minister of Education V. Radhakrishnan and a delegation from Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) led by A. Thondaman.Dr. Jaishankar met with the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Minister of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem and leader of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen. read more
