They told us that the landlord doesn’t collect post, doesn’t call and only engages by text.“She now has huge arrears and the last payment of €200 was made in July 2013. The normal monthly repayment is €1,051.  It is unacceptable to mislead the court as she said she was living there with four young children but this is not true.“When we called, it came as a surprise to both us and the tenant.”The court heard that the woman was separated and her former husband had never appeared before the courts.During the proceedings, a letter was handed in from the woman stating that she was unable be able to attend the hearing.Mr Wallace adjourned the case for two months and asked that every effort be made to have the woman before the court.“I will consider granting the repossession order then. She told MABS that she lived there, she told everyone she was living there. We are weary of this lady as we don’t think she is being upfront,” he said. NPFL: Shooting Stars Begin Pay Strike

first_imgThey were paid a month’s salary before the Rangers game. They are now owed five months’ salaries and 10 match bonuses.Shooting Stars are 14th on the table with 44 points from 33 matches.Meanwhile, Rivers United captain, Festus Austin has warned players of the club not to get carried away as they look to win the NPFL title at the first time of asking.United is currently top of the NPFL standings with three matches remaining and the ‘Pride of Rivers’ know they are within striking distance of an improbable title.Austin however concedes that it will be extremely premature to start singing the victory tunes with three potentially difficult fixtures still to navigate.“Nobody (at Rivers United) should even start thinking of celebrating because it is too early for that kind of thing.“If you take a closer look at the (NPFL) table, you will realize that there are four or even five clubs that are capable of winning the title.“At this stage of the season, calm heads, disciplined individuals and consistent levels of hard work are required,” he told Rivers United Media.United will embark on a banana skin trip to Bauchi to face Wikki Tourists on Sunday, a side that previously spent 63 days at the top of the table, in their next league game, knowing defeat could sound the death knell on their title aspirations. The Port Harcourt side, in stark contrast, have spent just 18 days cumulatively, as the top dogs of the division.Statistics aside, Austin anticipates an extremely difficult test against the Tourists especially putting United’s shocking form away from home in perspective, as they have failed to score on their travels in their last nine attempts. The last time Rivers United avoided defeat away from home was three months ago (June 9) when they drew 0-0 at champions, Enyimba and Austin knows improvements are rapidly required.“We have not been getting good results on the road in recent matches.“It is not like we played badly in all those matches but the truth is, football is a game decided by goals and I will not use this medium to make excuses.“The fans want us to start performing from this Sunday’s game against Wikki and that is what we will try to do against one of the best sides in the league,” he said.Austin played no part in United’s last game, an impressive come-from-behind win against last season’s runners up, Warri Wolves after he failed a late fitness test. The centre half who is in the frame for a return against Wikki this weekend revealed he was extremely nervous watching last Saturday’s game against Wolves from the side lines. He however cut a relieved figure at full time with his side closing out the win and also against the backdrop of title rivals, Enugu Rangers and Wikki Tourists dropping vital points simultaneously.“I feel excited (at the current situation) which enabled us move to the top of the table.“I am very happy about this,” he said.Austin will be even happier if his side can pull the chestnut out of the fire and claim unlikely points at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi on Sunday.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram Rivers Utd captain caution teammates on titleShooting Stars began a pay strike tuesday afternoon to press for their outstanding salaries as well as to sight the contracts they signed with the Ibadan club.“They refused to train today because they want their outstanding salaries and also they wish to sight the contracts they signed with ‘The Oluyole Warriors’,” a top source informed.Shooting Stars shelved an earlier plan to go on strike before the home game against traditional rivals Enugu Rangers.last_img read more

Manny Machado’s poor defensive metrics can be cured, Dave Roberts says

first_imgMILWAUKEE – In the second inning of Saturday’s game at Miller Park, the Dodgers’ new shortstop, Manny Machado, ranged deep into the hole to snare a ground ball by Brewers outfielder Keon Broxton and fired a quick throw across his body that got to first baseman Cody Bellinger on one hop ahead of Broxton for the out.It was the kind of play that goes on a highlight reel – and not the kind of play you expect from the player who ranks last among shortstops in nearly every defensive metric this season.“You look at his ability – for us, there was a challenge,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “He knows what the metrics say. The challenge is for him to prove them wrong. For me, I like the eye test. I want to see it for myself. I hadn’t seen him play much at all at shortstop this year.“From what I’ve seen, with the way he’s worked and how he’s connected with (infield coach) Chris Woodward – I think there’s a lot of good things for us.” Dodgers bench slumping Cody Bellinger for a day Turner was back in the starting lineup Sunday for the first time since injuring a muscle in his right leg on July 12. Roberts said he expects Turner to play “three or four” games in a row before getting another day off.Right-handers Ross Stripling and Kenta Maeda will start the first two games of the series in Philadelphia. The Dodgers have not announced a starter for Wednesday’s game against the Phillies but rookie right-hander Walker Buehler is expected to rejoin the rotation from Triple-A and start.“That’s a very good possibility,” Roberts said.UP NEXTDodgers RHP Ross Stripling (8-2, 2.08 ERA) at Phillies RHP Zach Eflin (7-2, 3.15 ERA), Monday, 4:05 p.m., SportsNet LA (where available) “I do. I think so,” he said. “I don’t know how aggressive Baltimore was. I think we are on the more aggressive side.“I did say the same things about Matt and I think the metrics speak to how much better Matt has gotten, all that stuff. So I think Manny with his age and ability can do the same.”Roberts also said he thinks Woodward can work with Machado on “some technique things” as he did with Corey Seager. Seager went from an average shortstop in 2016 (minus-1 defensive runs saved and a 6.5 UZR) to a Gold Glove finalist in 2017 (with 10 defensive runs saved, second among National League shortstops, and a 9.0 UZR that was second in the majors behind Angels wizard Andrelton Simmons).LOGAN’S RUNGoing into Sunday’s game, Logan Forsythe was batting .207 for the season with just five hits in 43 at-bats over the previous month (a .116 average). But Roberts continues to start him at second base against most left-handers. Forsythe was batting .184 with a .507 OPS against lefties before facing Brent Suter on Sunday.“I don’t ever doubt his preparedness, his focus, his intent,” Roberts said before Sunday’s game. “It’s been a tough go for Logan for 2-1/2, three months. I think the defense is above average. There’s a lot of value there. I think it’s important for us to continue to give him opportunities. Sometimes, they can take an at-bat or two and something will click.“You guys know me – I don’t like to give up on players, especially when they’re doing things the right way, because that sends a message to the clubhouse. I appreciate his work. He’s never once taken his offense out on the defensive side of things so, for me, that means a lot.”Forsythe went 3 for 4 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday’s win, his first multi-hit game since June 19.“I thought Logan put together four good at-bats,” Roberts said. “Hopefully that’s something we can build on.”ALSORelated Articles Whicker: Dustin May yet another example of the Dodgers’ eye for pitching Dodgers’ hot-hitting Corey Seager leaves game with back injury center_img When the Dodgers acquired Matt Kemp this offseason, there were similar unflattering metrics that ranked him as one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball over the previous two years. In Kemp’s case, there were issues with his physical conditioning which he addressed. But Roberts promised in spring training Kemp’s defense would improve dramatically with the Dodgers.Sign up for our Inside the Dodgers newsletter. Be the best Dodger fan you can be by getting daily intel on your favorite team. Subscribe here.Kemp has proven him right. His defensive runs saved have jumped from a horrendous minus-17 last year to a more palatable minus-3 so far this year with a similar improvement in his UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating).A two-time Gold Glove winner at third base who moved back to his original position this season, Machado at age 26 should not be experiencing such a big dropoff in his defensive performance. Roberts cited two of the same factors that contributed to Kemp’s improvement as reasons Machado’s defense should improve with the Dodgers.“I think when you’re playing on a first-place team, the focus – not to say that he wasn’t focused (with Baltimore) – but I just understand that the energy, however you want to classify it, is heightened,” Roberts said.Roberts also thinks the Dodgers’ sophisticated approach to using analytics in defensive positioning will go a long way to making Machado a more effective defender at shortstop. Pau wants to play in China; Calderon, Marc Gasol hail success of Spain players in Qualifiers

first_imgPau Gasol says he’s looking forward to competing for his country again, at this summer’s 32-team FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. The MVP of FIBA’s flagship competition in 2006 and the most decorated player in his national team’s history, Gasol said: “My intentions are to join the team and play. “If I’m healthy, my intention is to play. I’d like to play again with the national team and I’d like to have a good World Cup and help our team qualify for the Olympics once again.”  #TBExclusive | @paugasol of @spurs told @TrendBasket after Wednesday’s game vs. 76ers that he’s willing to don La Roja jersey this summer at the @FIBAWC, if he’s healthy. He’ll be 39 this summer and wishes to carry @BaloncestoESP on top of the world, for the first time since ’06. pic.twitter.com/nIiZ2XepV7— TrendBasketEN (@TrendBasketEN) 24 January 2019The 2020 Summer Olympics will be in Tokyo, Japan. “That’s my intention,” Gasol said of playing in China. “At this point, health is a big issue. I’m 38 and I’ll be 39 this summer, so that’s a fact. But my wish and my desire is to be with my national team and continue to do great things for my country.”Spain clinched their place at the World Cup with a qualifying window to spare, winning 8 of 10 games in the European Qualifiers.Coach Sergio Scariolo has given numerous, less heralded players but ones that were deserving, a chance to wear the national team jersey. Several will have a good chance of playing for the country in China.Jose Manuel Calderon, who retired from the national team after the Rio 2016 Games, says the European Qualifiers for the World Cup have been a huge success for Spain, not only with the qualification but also because Scariolo now has more players to choose.”THESE FIBA WINDOWS HAVE BEEN A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THE NATIONAL TEAM IS NOT ONLY THE 12-16 PLAYERS THAT WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, BUT THAT THERE ARE MANY PLAYERS IN SPANISH BASKETBALL WHO ARE AT A GREAT LEVEL AND WHO HAVE QUALIFIED US FOR THE WORLD CUP. BEST OF ALL, (SPAIN COACH) SERGIO (SCARIOLO) HAS A LOT TO CHOOSE FROM.” – Jose Manuel Calderon”It is possible that some players never came to defend the national shirt because our generation has been playing, perhaps, many years and we have reduced the opportunities of other players who deserved it,” he told Marca.”These FIBA windows have been a great opportunity to let it be known that the national team is not only the 12-16 players that we have always been, but that there are many players in Spanish basketball who are at a great level and who have qualified us for the World Cup. Best of all, Sergio has a lot to choose from.”Gasol’s younger brother, Marc, is also a big part of the national team. If he links up with Pau again, the two will have another chance to devastate opponents, as they did at times during FIBA EuroBasket 2017. Marc Gasol, like Calderon, praised Spain’s players for making the most of their opportunity to represent the country and clinch a spot in the World Cup.”I think they’ve done a fantastic job,” he said in Gigantes. “They have played as a group and above all, they have known how to suffer, which is something very important. A practically new team has won very big games and from my side I am very happy with the qualification they have achieved.” Marc Gasol is not surprised that Spain, even with less celebrated players, have done so well in the Qualifiers.”Sometimes we forget about this because we have been with the same block of players for many years and that is a bit of a plug (road block) for the younger players and other players,” he pointed out. “But the level and talent we have in Spain is something that those of us who follow the ACB (Liga Endesa) see very often but other people forget it and are surprised.”I hope he (Scariolo) will trust even more in the home players because he really is one with a different feel.”last_img read more
